The Greene County Rams volleyball team faced off against the Perry Jayettes on Perry’s home court Oct. 5, winning all three sets of the night.
The sets went 25-11, 25-9 and 25-23, all to the Rams. Once again, Greene County junior Bella Schroeder led the team in kills for the night, adding 12 to her name. After the game on Tuesday, Schroeder was ranked fifth in the Heart of Iowa Conference for kill efficiency.
Nineteen more kills were accomplished by the Rams. Emma Shipley and Natalie Heupel claimed five apiece, Kaylee Stalder had four, Katrina Heupel and Ashlynn Hinners picked up two each and Ella Shipley had one. As a team, the girls served 92 percent.
“We had a fantastic night of passing. Our offense was hitting the mark and defense was stellar. The first two sets showcased the best hitter/setter connections I’ve seen from our girls all season,” commented Ram coach Chris Heisterkamp.
Greene County dropped a Heart of Iowa Conference match to Nevada on the Rams home court on Oct. 7. The Cubs were victorious 25-14, 25-15 and 25-13. It was senior night for Greene County as the Rams honored members of the class of 2022: Brianna Habben, Alex Miller and Marisa Lehnhoff.
Leading the team in kills were Natalie Heupel and Emma Ewalt with four; Schroeder and Stalder with three and Emma Shipley and Habben with two. Schroeder worked the net for six blocks. Habben and Heupel added two blocks and Shipley, one.
The team served 88 percent. Katrina Heupel topped the defense with eight digs followed by Graci Cooklin with five and Alexa Peters with four.
The Rams fell to 14-9 on the season with a 3-3 conference record. The next matchup for Greene County was scheduled for Tuesday at Saydel High School. They will play in the Winterset Tournament on Saturday.
Greene County hosts the opening round of Class 3A tournament action Monday, Oct. 18, at 7 pm. The Rams square off against OABCIG. The winner advances to a long road trip to Unity Christian. The opponent will be the first round winner between UC and Pocahontas Area.
